The North Dakota Association of Meat Processors (NDAMP) is proud to announce Katelyn Mattern as the recipient of the 2026 NDAMP Scholarship—a recognition awarded to outstanding students who demonstrate exceptional commitment to agriculture, leadership, and the future of our industry.
Katelyn exemplifies what it means to lead with purpose, work with determination, and invest in the future of rural communities.
A Passion for Animal Science & Rural Veterinary Care
Katelyn plans to attend North Dakota State University to pursue a degree in Animal Science, followed by a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine with a focus on large animals. Her long-term vision is both thoughtful and impactful—beginning her career in a local clinic and ultimately opening her own veterinary practice.
Her motivation is rooted in a real and pressing need.
“There’s a shortage of people willing to treat large animals, and this career has a great future job outlook.”
Katelyn’s commitment to filling that gap reflects not only career ambition, but a deep understanding of the agricultural community and the challenges it faces.

Leadership That Leaves a Lasting Impact
Katelyn’s leadership extends far beyond titles and awards. As described by her advisor, Kristi Tonnessen:
“I can confidently say that our FFA chapter would not have experienced the recent successes if it weren’t for her involvement and leadership.”
From serving as president of multiple state champion teams to organizing large-scale agricultural safety events that educated over 200 elementary students, Katelyn consistently steps up to lead, teach, and serve.
Her initiative, attention to detail, and willingness to invest time into helping others succeed set her apart as a true leader in agriculture.
A Strong Work Ethic On and Off the Farm
In addition to her academic and leadership accomplishments, Katelyn is actively involved in her family’s farming and ranching operation and works as a Marketing/Sales Intern with Gooseneck Implement. Through these experiences, she has developed a well-rounded understanding of agriculture—from production to business to community engagement.
Her advisor describes her as:
“A shining example of hard work, integrity, and leadership.”
